Cape Town, South Africa, 22 October 2026. Omni-channel retailer Homechoice has appointed veteran retail executive Shane van Niekerk as Chief Executive Officer, effective 1st November 2026.
Homechoice was established in 1985 as a direct marketing retailer selling bedding and homeware products to the female mass-market and offering credit to customers who traditionally had no access to credit. Today, Homechoice sells the same quality homeware products through digital channels and more than 60 physical showrooms across South Africa.
The appointment of Van Niekerk as CEO brings significant retail leadership pedigree to Homechoice. Shane developed his retail expertise during his 26-year tenure at the Mr Price Group, ultimately serving as Group Managing Director and a member of the board. He played a key role in building Mr Price Home and launching Mr Price Sport. More recently, he was the Managing Director of Jet where he reshaped the business, developed the Jet Home proposition and led its subsequent acquisition by TFG.
Shirley Maltz, Executive Deputy Chair at Weaver Fintech, which owns Homechoice says, “We have been serving South African women for over four decades and we’re excited to welcome Shane into the business. He is one of the most experienced retail operators in South Africa having built businesses, launched successful retail concepts and led organisations through both growth and turnaround environments. His understanding of the customer, merchandise, store operations and retail execution makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the next phase of Homechoice’s journey.”
Maltz also thanked outgoing Retail CEO Chris de Wit for his contribution to the business. “Chris has led Homechoice through a period of considerable change. We thank him for his commitment and contribution over the past five years and wish him well for the future.”
