Cape Town, 15 May 2026: Weaver Fintech (JSE:WVR) was named the winner of the Fintech Award at the 8th annual Africa Tech Week Awards, at a gala dinner on 13 May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The Africa Tech Week Awards recognise innovators, leaders and organisations shaping the future of technology on the continent, and forms part of Sentech Africa Tech Week, one of Africa’s leading platforms focused on the development of the digital economy.
Weaver Fintech’s digital ecosystem of payments, lending and insurance products helps customers shop, pay, insure and access credit through its consumer brands PayJustNow and FinChoice, all while remaining within a trusted environment. The group serves more than four million customers across South Africa, with a strong focus on broadening access to financial services in a way that is simple, transparent and responsible.
In its 2025 Annual Results, the business reported revenue growth of 23% to R5.5 billion, serving more than 4.3 million customers, and adding more than 120 000 new fintech sign-ups every month.
The Fintech Award was accepted by Shirley Maltz, Executive Chairperson of Weaver Fintech, who said: “This recognition is possible because of the engagement and loyalty of our customers, 70 percent of whom are urban, digitally savvy, African women that have shown great trust by choosing our ecosystem of lending, payments and insurance products for their needs.”
“We are genuinely grateful for this award. It reflects the care and commitment our people bring to their work every day, often quietly and without recognition. Across Weaver Fintech, our teams are focused on building products that make a practical difference in people’s lives, and this recognition tells us that we are moving in the right direction,” said Maltz.
Weaver Fintech’s buy now, pay later offering, PayJustNow, has become a key entry point into the group’s ecosystem, supporting customers with interest-free payment options both online and in-store. Through FinChoice, the group also provides digital lending, insurance and wallet solutions designed around everyday financial needs.
Looking ahead, the group has indicated that it will continue to expand its ecosystem during throughout 2026, including the launch of an MVNO offering, PJN Mobile. The new service is intended to provide customers with more affordable data and airtime, while rewarding loyalty and positive engagement within the Weaver Fintech ecosystem.
According to Sean Wibberley, Weaver’s CEO, the company’s growth reflects both market demand and disciplined execution. “There is a tendency to frame inclusion as a social objective divorced from commercial reality. Our experience proves the opposite. By designing for underserved customers at scale, we have built strong recurring revenue, high engagement and long term customer relationships.”
